Do you believe in democracy and free expression? Do you want your opinion to count rather than have it swept under the carpet by corporate media? If you answered “yes” to the previous questions, Media Democracy Day is your day! Gather with stellar collection of media activists and experts to share and discuss ways in which we can continue to democratize media together.

A Hello Cool World workshop presented by Grassroots Outreach Manager, Colette Gunson and Hello Cool World Founder and Creative Director, Katherine Dodds. We will talk about our ongoing work with The Corporation, The Take, and our Campaign 4 Corporate Harm Reduction. (C4CHR).

MDD Update!
MDD’s surprise closing speaker tomorrow is Favianna Rodriguez! (Renowned San Francisco based, digital graphic artist and community arts centre founder). More on Favianna below.
We’ve also added:
*Kim Elliot (Publisher of Rabble.ca) to our “Be The Media” panel;
*Jessi Berkelhammer (From the infamous Seattle based radical technology project RiseUp.net), who will join our exciting “Democratizing the Web” panel;
*Theresa Lalonde (CBC, Online and Interactive Reporter), who will lead a discussion on “media as public space.”
Our most recent exciting addition to the day is Indigenous blogger Dustin Rivers, who will co-facilitate a workshop on “Media and Decolonization” with Harsha Walia. See a Q&A with Dustin Rivers in the Georgia Straight here.
AND we're happy to inform you that our closing keynote, Donald Gutstein, will be signing copies of his newly released book “Not a Conspiracy Theory” from 3:30-4:30. Favianna will also showcase her artwork at our media fair prior her talk.
If that's not enough - we’ll also host a premiere screening of “Be the Media: A local approach to establishing an alternative voice.”!!!
The Director, Nick Middleton, will join a panel of local independent media workers/innovators to discuss the future of Indie media in Vancouver and beyond. In addition to being an award winning independent filmmaker, Nick is also the Co-Director of the Gulf Islands Film and Television School (GIFTS), Canada's renowned indie-film school.
