A DRUMMER'S DREAM AT VIFF
I had the pleasure of meeting filmmaker John Walker when Mark Achbar and I did a workshop a year and a half ago at the Candian Film Centre. At the time he was working on his new film -- A Drummer's Dream, and now it's screening at VIFF Monday October 4, 6:30 pm, and Wednesday October 6 at 3Pm!

“A Drummer’s Dream (directed by John Walker) is about half a dozen of the best drummers in the world, who are invited to a barn in cottage country in Ontario, where they perform and give classes. It’s remarkably introspective for a film about drumming.” Vancouver Sun.
Winner of Top Ten Audience Choice Awards at Hot Docs!
The film features Nasyr Abdul Al-Khabyyr, Dennis Chambers, Kenwood Dennard, Horacio “El-Negro” Hernandez, Giovanni Hidalgo, Mike Mangini and Raul Rekow, awe-inspiring musicians who have backed up the likes of Miles Davis, Dizzy Gillespie, Carlos Santana and now – each other. Their music, from Latin rhythms and rock to jazz and soul, seduces Walker – once a promising drummer himself – as well as viewers.
For fans of music and drumming this is truly not to be missed.
Filmed in a remote setting during a drum camp for emerging musicians, this extraordinary film explores the power of music to inspire and unite.
