Conversations and Change at Media Democracy Day

Hello Cool World was proud to be a part of Media Democracy Day 2010!
On a chilly Saturday afternoon at the Central Branch of the Vancouver Public Library hundreds of people congregated to celebrate and discuss the current state of media. Workshops, including the opening keynote by Tony Burman of Al Jazeera English, were filled and people turned away.
The Media Fair was abuzz and full of energy, attended by people who create change and are media-makers themselves – journalists, photographers, bloggers and social media junkies. Although the issues surrounding Media Democracy are so important, media is crucial to the way problems are communicated to the masses, the energy was positive. People of all ages wanted to participate in change instead of complaining about mass media and it’s inherent problems. We were happy to be alongside friends and supporters including Open Media, Rabble, CiTR and CJSF, Open File Vancouver and Pull Focus Film School.
We had a fantastic time and are looking forward to Media Democracy Day 2011!
