That's a wrap!

By Michelle Reid

Bella enjoying a post-shoot afternoon snackThe Hello Cool World team finished our last photo and video shoot this weekend for the I Have Immunity campaign. I didn't take any behind-the-scenes photos at the shoot, but here's Bella at our post-shoot outing to The Reef.

We had such a great weekend with all our participants- it was wonderful to work with more real families (some of whom were lovely enough to drive in from Chiliwack and Squamish) and talk to them about health and immunity.

We've also had a wonderful response to our online survey- if you haven't taken it already, you're entered to win a $50 gift card just for sharing feedback and thoughts with us. We've given away two prizes already and I'm waiting to hear from our third prize recepient.

Our second winner, Denise, had a story to share about why she thinks vaccination is so important:

In my 25+ years of Public Health Nursing, I have been able to see, first-hand, the many benefits of vaccines.  For example, when my children were young, there was no such thing as the Pneumococcal Congugate vaccine, which is a vaccine that protects against 13 types of pneumococcal bacteria.  My oldest son had numerous ear infections, which resulted in frequent courses of antibiotics, ear-tubes and some hearing loss.   Since 2003, the pneumococcal vaccine has been available and has resulted in a dramatic reduction in the circulating “bug” that causes ear infection.

What's more, two-thirds of the people who've taken our survey know someone who has been affected by a vaccine preventable illness, such as diptheria, tetanus, hepatitis A or B, or meningitis. Outbreaks of vaccine-preventable measles and mumps are going on in Canada right now, but many people still don't fully vaccinate themselves or their children. We hope that those people will be motivated by hearing from other British Columbians to find more resources on vaccines, to talk to a doctor or nurse about their concerns, and to make the best decision to protect their loved ones.
