CANADA VOTES

OK CANADA - THIS IS IT -- GET OUT THERE AND VOTE!
And if you can, take some time to make sure everyone you know does the same. Friends don't let friends forget to vote. So...
EXERCISE YOUR DEMOCRATIC RESPONSIBILITY! Check out VoteSocial.ca You can find out where your poll is, and it encourages you to vote with friends.

If you are worried that in your riding the race is tight and the left vote might be split -- you can find out where the polls say this is a risk. Project Democracy makes it easier to vote strategically.
According to Jason Mogus, one of the collaborators on VoteSocial.ca, their "goal wasn't to get lots of traffic (though we have, with mentions so far by the CBC, CTV, Margaret Atwood, and more) but to show that people who value cooperation and democracy are a united movement."
I would add to this what Amy Goodman said on Friday night at the CCPA fundraiser in Vancouver -- for progressive people, the real work starts the day after the election.
This morning CTV described this as the first social media federal election. It's being driven by oline activists, by youth, byt he fabulous women behind the breaking up with Harper videos, but today we must also get the vote out offline, in the polls. So VOTE.
Here are more handy links:
ProjectDemocracy.ca for a powerful strategic voting database
LeadNow.ca for long term movement building.
And of course our pals at Open Media urge us to VOTE for the internet
From Avaaz, who teamed up with Project Democracy:
"Opinion polls decisively show - from health care to the environment to gun laws - that a majority of Canadians, and all of the opposition parties, are in basically the same camp. But because of our electoral system, Harper's relatively radical minority could govern the country yet again, unless we take action fast. Just click here to find out how it works. If enough of us work together, we can make sure that a majority of the votes means a majority of seats in Parliament."
All right Canada - see you at the polls!
And a post-election save the date: Raw Opium, which takes a global look at harm reduction and the ravages of the war on drugs is playing next Saturday, May 7 at DOXA.
Featured in the film is Insite, who are in a battle to say open -- right now -- and which is certainly an election issue.
