No lazy summer days for us at HCW! But our afternoon topics do turn to pleasure

PLEASURE ON OUR MINDS!
Yesterday afternoon we had another informal salon as David Ng is heading back to Cape Town today. It was a smaller less flamboyant send off, as we had the actual going away party (fondue-b-q) at Bella's on Friday night. (pictured above!) But a couple of our cohorts who missed the 'do' on Friday came to say their good-byes. And of course it turned into an informal theory salon as we discussed one of favorite themes, pleasure and sexual health!
Cindy Masaro has been working at the STI clinic for 11 years, and is currently our Hello Cool World "research associate." We're working with her to promote her Phd research survey which looks at gender and narratives around dating in the digital age (AKA sexual scripts). The survey site is: DatingConfidential.ca. She's seeking women over 25, who are actively dating to fill in her survey. (They could win an iPad 2!) But more importantly for us anyone who fills out this survey is helping us to fill gaps in research which could lead to campaign and programs which improve women's sexual health -- which we believe includes pleasure.

Also joining us was Stephanie Sersli, an active part of last season's theory salons, and formerly of Opt. We're hoping she stays in touch with us and that we find a way to work together on the next sexy sexual health campaign! Steph brought along her friend and photographer Sarah Race - so of course we videotaped it all. Self-defining ourselves as a 'reality company' we have an OCD desire to document. OK, so DAVID AND I HAVE THE OBSESSION. But the rest seem totally willing to play along. : )
We know how to pick them: Michelle Reid -- our new Health Promotions Outreach Coordinator is onboard with the pleasure methodology. She was there to toast David and is also working on the outreach for DatingConfidential. She's also a youth director for the Canadian Federation for Sexual Health, which is one of the reasons we're thriled she's on our team only reinforced by this line from her Linkedin profile: "Someday I will author sex-positive YA fiction, but for now you can find me writing and working in health promotion."
David's MA work is around gender, sexual scripts and HIV. And to quote him: "Of course I'm a feminist!" How to take analysis of oppression and make it something people will 'buy?" We talk about this all the time. It's a biggie, and we really think a positive approach works.
Now we need to prove it!
