Media Democracy Days are on their way!

By Katherine Dodds

This year MDD is plural! So check out our table on SATURDAY. Lots of great panels, speakers and info tables will be there. Check out their program, and plan your weekend around this inspiring and FREE event. You do need to registier though...

Last year we had a table, we rolled out our own poppy icon stickers -- to remember the vicitims of the drug war. This FIVE petalled opium poppy is available in sticker format. This year Hello Cool World will have a table again, where we will be featuring all our projects, giving away poppy stickers, and showing off our LACE. And if you want to buy our cool poppy stickers AND the new posters we've done for The Corporation, we now have them all for sale on our webstore!

I am hoping to catch the Friday Night talk by Sut Jhally, I've been following his work since my Adbusters days.

Here's the info from MDD site:

DR. SUT JHALLY

Founder of the Media Education Foundation, and world-leading media scholar, filmmaker and analyst, Dr. Jhally brings tremendous insight to the task of understanding the media’s role in shaping our social identities through gender and race, commercialism, violence and politics. He is the producer and director of various films and in explaining the power of documentary media to help us understand and confront our fears he notes that: “In a state of fear, citizens are vulnerable to manipulation by opportunistic politicians and a sensationalist media.” Speaking on Remembrance Day, as well as the tenth anniversary of the US Air Force bombing of the Kabul office of Al-Jazeera, Dr. Jhally is an ideal speaker to open Media Democracy Day and introduce the film War Made Easy: How Presidents and Pundits Keep Spinning us to Death on November 11th, 2011 at the Pacific Cinematheque.

There are LOTS of other great speakers so check it all out! See you there!
