BC Ideas Finalist – Beauty Night Society

By Bella Sie

Want an easy way to change the lives of women and children in the downtown eastside?

Beauty Night Society, an organization building self-esteem and fostering wellness in the downtown eastside could win $15,000 to support their programs, but needs your vote. Vote at http://www.changemakers.com/bcideas - it'll only take 30 seconds, and can completely turn lives around!

Beauty Night helps senior citizens, mothers, children, street youth, and survival sex workers build self-esteem, because being empowered to make life changes means believing you are worth changing for.Beauty Night fosters this empowerment by building an inclusive community that accepts and supports its members. The positive community environment encourages women to participate in the wellness and lifeskills programs held at Beauty Night, including yoga, footcare, walking clinics, cervical cancer screening and more. Make-overs are used to help women celebrate who they are inside and all they can become, and serve as a bridge through which women can feel part of the community. Beauty night helps women be connected to support programs and be ready to accept support.

Beauty Night serves two hundred women every week - please help Beauty Night continue doing so by voting for us to get funding! When you go to vote, it will ask you to create an account and verify your e-mail by clicking on a link that they e-mail you - but it does only take 30 seconds, they haven't spammed me at all yet, and its only one more click to unsubscribe if you want to. Voting ends Nov 9th

Please please help! Beauty Night is already one of 11 finalists out of 466 entries, but only the top three get funded. Feel free to share this message with friends and family; every vote counts.

Cross-post from beautynight.org:

“We are thrilled to be one of the 11 finalists for the BC Ideas competition and need your help to be one of the top three finalists. If we are chosen, $15, 000 would be invested in our cause. This would help us in our mission to build self esteem and change lives for women and youth living in poverty. In the past twelve years, we have given 26, 000 makeovers thanks to 500 volunteers. Just imagine what we could do with additional support,” says Caroline MacGillivray, Beauty Night Founder and Executive Director.
