NEW ITEMS ON HELLO COOL WORLD

DVDs

Tracks Across Sand: The ‡Khomani San of the Southern Kalahari, The Story of a Land Claim

**Editors Pick** this is one of the most inspiring examples of social filmmaking I've seen in a long while. The DVD is 4.5 hours of footage organized into 16 short films. Travel to the edge of the Southern Kalahari, witness the story of a land claim, and beyond. Directed by Hugh Brody. Edited by Haida Paul. Produced by our HCW pal, the amazing Betsy Carson.

Do You Really Want to Know?- New Release

This heartbreaking yet riveting film from Academy Award Winning® Director John Zaritsky follows three families who have been confronted with the decision of whether or not to be tested for Huntington’s Disease (HD) – a fatal degenerative neurological illness that slowly destroys the mind and the body. I watched this film and surprisingly did not find it depressing. Without being saccharin it offers hope, through the power of storytelling.

Raw Opium: Pain, Pleasure, Profits DVD - Now available from Hello Cool World

Raw Opium takes journey around the world to the front lines and poppy fields, where conflicting forces do battle over the narcotic sap of the opium poppy. From an opium master in southeast Asia to a UN drug enforcement officer on the border of Afghanistan hunting down the smugglers of central Asia. Challenging our assumptions about addiction and the war on drugs,  the film looks at both the CIA connection and the case for harm reduction.

BOOKS

John Clarke: Explorer of the Coast Range Unabridged - Hardcover BRAND NEW RELEASE!

World famous as a mountaineer, John Clarke was also the much loved co-founder of the Uts'am Witness Project (with Nancy Bleck and Chief Bill Williams). He aslo co-founded the Wilderness Education Project with author Lisa Baile. In this fascinating biography,
Lisa Baile provides a warm and detailed portrait of John Clarke, the man who racked up more first ascents than any other climber - perhaps more than any climber who ever lived.

CD's

Uts'am Witness CD: Song, Sound, Story - CD - Now Available from Hello Cool World

To be a witness is to be a keeper of history in an oral tradition. This multi media CD, produced by sound artist sylvi MacCormac, is a tribute to the Uts'am Witness project. The CD contains tracks from many independent and traditional musicians. Proceeds of both this CD and the John Clarke book go to the Uts'am Witness Society book project.
