#STRONG2013 conference Wednesday

By David Ng

What an intense - but fun - 3 days it's been at the #STRONG2013 conference!  We've had a great response from participants who have been actively tweeting and responding to all the online action!

One of the connections I have made during this conference, is the connection between culture, history, and technology.  I learned about such creative ways to utilize technology for the preservation of culture.  Some really interesting work going on!

I went to Mitch Krupp's presentation on GIS (Geographical Information Systems) which had some interesting applications to First Nations communities.  The way that the technology can track and map geographical areas, and categorize them through labelling can be really useful for communities wanting to map various sites that are important to communities such as burial sites, etc.  The way that we can take a relatively inexpensive device, and use it to preserve culture and history is a great way that communities can utilize technology.

The final session that we went to was a "Telehealth" session which showed several different techologies that health care providers can use to treat patients remotely.  Using cameras, microphones, and the mighty internet, doctors can help treat patients remotely, hundreds of kilometers away! Amazing

Looking forward to the rest of the conference, which ends on Friday!
