Trouble the Water, Fierce Light, Waterlife out on DVD!

By David Ng

Three very cool DVD's have just been released!  Look out for Trouble the Water, Waterlife, and Fierce Light!

They are all available on our webstore!

Most people have probably heard of Trouble the Water since it was nominated for an Academy Award.  I think it's a very good film that talks about the Katrina disaster and exposes all the controversy around it from the ground up.  Trouble the Water shows how exactly these problems manifested themselves in the relief efforts (or lack thereof) that the government contributed to those in need.  The film uses footage shot by two survivors of Katrina, who - using their home camera - filmed themselves going through the disaster, and continuing on, trying to piece together their lives afterwards.  One part that I found that was particularly interesting was when one of the survivors asks out loud, "It's been 2 weeks since Katrina happened...where is the National guard?".  Further interviews with other survivors really described just how frustrating the lack of attention from the government was.  The footage that survived the disaster is amazing, and I think we're lucky to be able to see exactly what happened to survivors, and hopefully understand why Katrina was not just a natural disaster, but a national disaster as well. Waterlife is the second film that we are debuting on our webstore this week.  Waterlife is a really beautiful film that attempts to capture the essence of both why we need and love water, but also to explain why our water systems are in deep danger.  Though the film is very moving and beautiful, I also found it very disturbing because it forced me to consider how much damage I am doing not only to nature, and water, but also directly to myself.  The way this film is crafted is phenomenal - it captures the relationship that humanity has with water, yet it shakes the viewer to understand how much we are damaging the world around us.  This isn't just another environmental film, but rather it is an ode to water, and a plea to those who love it, to help save it.
