Yesterday David and I showed the latest cut of the Uts'am trailer to Nancy and Chief Bill -- and it was a good feeling that they liked it!
I am reminded of my favorite saying by my grad school advistor -- feminist scholar Griselda Pollock: "the relief of signification".
When theory is your drug, but populist marketing is your task, making the meaning, clearly meaningful is a pretty big high. It's made me feel like writing again. Good thing... cuz writing is what now needs to be done for the Uts'am book.
Working on the Witness trailer is like witnessing the process all over again. David dug out some footage of John and old video from the project, it's quite something to see this footage from 10 years ago. The challenge now is to not become mired in the potential sidetracks, ALL THE STORIES, but arrive at the heart of the matter.
At least for this moment.

Well this is it! Adding to the manic media mix, I am publishing my own personal blog too.
Why now?
Well, it's time to get in the writing groove again.
Two reasons.
There has always been an intersection between "my" work, and the work my company does. But after 10 years of focusing on building a business, i know that its future success will rely on it being able to run without me. So, it's time to take some personal time to get back to building the 'kat brand', while, I hope nurturing a new crop of cool world replicants.
And I have a writing deadline. After more years than Hello Cool World has been around, and after more then two decades of friendship, my dear friend the amazing artist, photographer and activist Nancy Bleck and I have a book to write. (BTW Happy Birthday Nancy!) So the juices need to flow.
This site will function mainly as way for me to creatively reflect on my work, as well as to do work that has no client attached.
But as I said, it all seems to intersect. Or as Michelle Reid delightfully put it — my methodology is the 'inception model". So I guess the projects 'incept'.
