Super Power Project
The Super Power Project is a youth-driven multi-media project to engage youth in B.C. to work towards the prevention of gendered violence by creating and distributing messages which expose and explore how stereotypical attitudes around gender connect to relationship violence. The messages were created through working with high-school age youth in video and outreach workshops, with a particular agenda in effectively involving and reaching out to boys.
This emphasis on reaching boys was further refined through an experimental online strategy that narrowed the target audience focus to 13-15 year old boys in B.C.
A secondary goal was to develop and implement a repeatable process for the project partners and other stakeholders to work with youth to create, launch and evaluate an online campaign with an offline media/launch component. Part of this process was to encourage the youth involved to spread the messages that they themselves have a hand in creating to other youth (“peer to peer”) through their own social networks, as well as for the expanded base of stake-holder partners to do outreach to their communities and to youth they are in contact with. This approach combines elements of Social Marketing Best Practices (SMBP), social networking and grassroots movement building.
