Funding the Campaign 4 Corporate Harm Reduction

Over the past six months, sales of The Corporation DVD on our web store HelloCoolStuff.com have soared. We're not sure what all is driving the renewed interest — we know it played on Link TV recently — but it seems The Corporation is enjoying a resurgence of sorts. Biased as we most unabashedly are, this really doesn't surprise us. The Corporation is just as watchable now as when it was released five years ago, and the pressure for change has only built.

Even though The Corporation is now several years old and no money is being spent on promotional efforts, it continues to gain supporters and pick up a significant amount of web traffic. We have over 50,000 members, many of them from the original grassroots campaign. And we're always amazed at how international our network is! Just looking over recent sign-ups, we see Germany, India, Spain, the Philippines, Bolivia, and, of course, US and Canada. That's a pretty diverse field and speaks to the global nature of corporate malfeasance, and why solutions must also be transnational.

We see these e'Zines as a way to keep our network growing, connected, and building into a movement. The problems are immense and while we strongly believe the pendulum is poised to swing back to citizen power, it will take time and resources. To that end, any profit that gets made from our e'Zines and our web store goes to funding the Campaign 4 Corporate Harm Reduction. Add that to a growing list of donations and the continued support of our members (hey, just forwarding these e'Zines helps), and the campaign is steadily taking shape.

And if you're not yet a member, won't you join us?

CAMPAIGN for a COMMERCIAL-FREE CHILDHOOD

A national coalition of health care professionals, educators, advocacy groups and concerned parents who counter the harmful effects of marketing to children through action, advocacy, education, research, and collaboration. Based in Boston, they support the rights of children to grow up – and the rights of parents to raise them – without being undermined by rampant commercialism.

Fans of The Corporation may remember Dr. Susan Linn who talked about the Nag Factor study and exploiting children's developmental vulnerabilities for marketing purposes. She is also featured in Corporations in the Classroom and is the Director of CCFC.
