Uts'am/Witness Book Trailer: Picturing Transformation

Picturing Transformation will be a gorgeous porfolio of Uts'am co-founder Nancy Bleck's Slànay Sp’ákw’us photographic journey, before, during and after the 'official' Witness project. Uts'am Witness inspired many people, and  ultimately resulted in a peaceful resolution to a disputed wilderness area, which had been slated for clear cut logging. Now, the area around Sim's Creek is known by it's ancient name Nexw-ayantsut, and is recongnized by the government of BC as a protected as part of the Squamish Nation's Sacred Land Use Plan - which extends 200 years.

In this hard-cover book, Nancy's artwork portfolios will be interspersed with documenary photography that illuminates the story of Witness, which was both about the simpicity of talking 'city folk' to experience old-growth forests, and the complex connections between land, environmental issues, Aboriginal land title, art-making and culture, and of course the hopes and dreams of many different people.

We're now fundraising for our book coming in 2013, published by Douglas & McIntyre. By pre-buying the book from the HelloCoolWorld.com webstore you will be supporting the Uts'am Witness Society and all our profits will be used for Fair Trade eco-printing of the book, engaging the community, expanding this website, and supporting exhibitions of the photo artwork featured in the book.
