Corporate Accountability International is running their annual Corporate Hall of Shame with candidates like TransCanada, Monsanto, McDonald's among their list of 10 global offenders. The "winner" will become the target of mobilized grassroots action, like last year's inductee Koch Industries which led to the removal of climate change-denier David Koch from the board of Boston PBS affiliate WGBH -- the producer of national programming like Frontline and NOVA.
It's hard to pick just one but cast your vote and take a stand against corporate abuse.
They don't show a tally of votes but apparently, there's no clear cut winner yet so you can help push your cause to the top. From financial, health, environmental, media, democratic and other harms, their list of the worst of the worst will likely cover it. And if not, you can add your own suggestion.

This amazing film is a must-see for anyone who cares about independent media. The Corporation's Mark Achbar describes the film as "taking up where Manufacturing Consent Left off" and "the best films on this topic so far."
Filmmaker Jean-Philippe Tremblay takes a journey through the darker corridors of the US media, where global conglomerates call the shots. For decades, their overwhelming influence has distorted news journalism and compromised its values. The film reveals ugly truths about the news media: censorship, cover-ups and corporate control.
Tracing the story of media manipulation through the years, Shadows of Liberty poses a crucial question: why have we let a handful of powerful corporations write the news? Media reform is urgent and freedom of the press is fundamental.
Check out the Democracy Now! interview with Director Jean-Philippe Tremblay.
"We decided to do this film with DocFactory and the Bertha Foundation because we’re dedicated to independent media. The goal was really to make films that change the world. And it became obvious to us that the media is one of the most, if not the most, important subject that we need to deal with today."
~ Jean-Philippe Tremblay (from the Democracy Now! segment)

Vancouverites will be able to catch a special fundraiser screening of The Corporation this Monday, May 26 with an info fair, panel guests (including The Corporation author Joel Bakan!) and after-party. Unfortunately, it's a bit of a devil's bargain since the event will be held at Goldcorp Centre for the Arts, which we were graciously offered for free, yet comes with some controversy. The mining company got its name on the door with a $10 million donation to SFU which outraged many people, including us, considering their track record of destructive and exploitative behaviour.
75% of the world’s mining companies have their headquarters here in Canada and it's no wonder why: there are virtually no regulations to prevent unscrupulous corporations from committing human rights violations overseas. And our mining companies, like Goldcorp, have been busy - poisoning water, destroying farms, even violent intimidation and murder.
One of the earliest supporters of The Corporation film, Inter Pares also co-founded the Canadian Network on Corporate Accountability (CNCA) and they are part of a coalition calling on Canadians to ensure that mining victims can access justice here in Canada. We've now come on board along with groups like Amnesty, Kairos, BC Teachers Federation and Oxfam Canada, to advocate for federal legislation that would establish mandatory standards for Canadian extractive companies operating abroad, especially in developing countries. Over 80,000 people have sent a letter to their Members of Parliament and on May 14, hundreds gathered on Parliament Hill to show their support.
For our part, we'll be handing out postcards at the May 26 screening to be sent to Goldcorp's Vancouver head office letting them know that we don’t check our conscience at the door just because their name is on it. Join us and get your tickets now!
Support the Open for Justice campaign and help fight mining injustice here and around the world. Check out the video from Inter Pares below, as well as links to action.

3,146,398. That's the number of people who, at last count, were part of projections lighting up key buildings in Washington, D.C. last night with messages against TPP secrecy. The international Stop The Secrecy campaign registered a huge victory and sent a clear message to negotiators that fast tracking the deal would meet with opposition. A lot of it.
Now, US Senator Ron Wyden, an important player in the Democratic party, has come out against trade secrecy saying, "Bringing the American people into full and open debates on trade agreements that have the effect of law is not too much to ask.” No kidding.
StopTheSecrecy.net is still collecting signatures or show your support by sharing the good news and help it go viral.
We think this opposition to the TPP is one more reason why The Corporation is still as relevant today as it way 10 years ago. Do you agree? Let us know in our 10 Year Anniversary campaign survey.

From StopTheSecrecy campaign:
Right now, Obama is meeting with leaders in Asia to finalize the secretive Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) agreement.
The TPP threatens to censor your Internet, kill jobs, undermine environmental safeguards, and remove your democratic rights.
We're going to get the attention of decision-makers and the media by projecting a Stop The Secrecy message on key buildings in Washington D.C. - but we need you to add your voice now.
The TPP is huge: It covers 40% of the global economy and will overwrite national laws affecting people around the world.
The worst of the TPP threatens everything we care about: democracy, jobs, health, the environment, and the Internet. That's why decision-makers are meeting in Asia under extreme secrecy and pushing 'Fast Track' laws to cement the plan into place.
This is no way to make decisions in the 21st century. We need to raise a loud global call to expose this dangerous secrecy now.
With every voice that is added to our call, a donor will contribute to make the Stop The Secrecy projection on buidlings in Washington D.C. bigger and brighter. We need to make this as big as possible when Obama returns to Washington on April 30th.
Take action at StopTheSecrecy.net!
