We're still buzzing from a fabulous night and kick-off to our crowdfunding campaign to get the film FREE into 1,000 schools! We held a special fundraiser screening of the new cut of The Corporation on Monday in Vancouver and it was great to re-connect with so many original supporters going back 10 years, as well as meet brand new ones.
From tickets, merchandise sales, and pledges, we raised over $5,000! And thanks to our anonymous donor matching the night's donations, that's $10,000 in one night - 20% of our crowdfunding goal of $50,000.
Big shout-outs to everyone who helped make the night a success! Thanks to everyone from SFU Vancity Office of Community Engagement for offering the venue and all the behind-the-scenes help to ensure the event ran smoothly. Thank you DOC BC for your sponsorship contribution, Pull Focus Film School for hosting the after party, and all our fabulous partners and supporters - Open Cinema, Open Media, Cinema Politica, Fractured Land, Gen Why Media, rabble.ca, Peoples Co-op Bookstore and dana.io. We truly could not have pulled it off without you!
We are very grateful to Sundance Ceremonial Chief Reuben George of the Tsleil-Waututh Nation who gave us a Coast Salish welcome and introduction, as well as our panel guests who facilitated a spirited discussion with the audience: the fantastic Caleb Behn, Fiona Rayher and Tara Mahoney, alongside our own Joel Bakan (Writer/Co-Creator who also signed books) and Mark Achbar (Producer/Director and a surprise guest).
And, of course, our 'crowd' of amazing supporters and volunteers! You are all part of paying it forward to get the film free into 1,000 schools, and to offer an affordable activist license for unlimited public screenings to community groups and organizers.
We're off to a great start but we're not done yet! Check out our Get Up Off The Couch! campaign on dana.io and pledge your support. Because if we can change the corporation, we can change the world.
The crowd starts filtering into the theatre.
