Director Nettie Wild Presents Bevel Up to India

By Sarah Levine On May 03, 2010 | 0 Comments

Bevel Up will be playing in Madras, India on May 5th. The screening is part of a film conference presented by the Indian Institute of Technology - Madras. Director Nettie Wild will be in Surrey, BC, giving a remote presentation to the conference, speaking on Bevel Up as an example of an interactive DVD.

A film like Bevel Up is unique not just because of its subject matter, but because of the different ways it can be used. The 45-minute documentary can stand alone as a story about the Street Nurses, their work in harm reduction, and the populations they serve, but the story really comes alive for educators when they use the interactive portions of the DVD. These include interviews and reflections by the nurses, and expert commentary on some of the complex topics in the film. Using these segments, and the exercises in the teaching guide, Bevel Up allows viewers to delve deeply into topics like "sex work," "pregnancy and drugs" or "drugs and the brain."

We can't wait for feedback from India!

Sarah

VANOC Vans to Fight AIDS? Our Petition for an Olympic Legacy

By Sarah Levine On April 01, 2010 | 0 Comments

Petition VANOC vehicles to fight AIDS

We're calling on the Vancouver Organizing Committee for the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Games to dedicate former Olympic cars to fight AIDS. So many agencies in the Downtown Eastside could use outreach vans for their work. Whether delivering a meal to a man with AIDS in a SRO in Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside, or providing a means to get an HIV positive woman to a doctor’s appointment or for an agency to provide services for sex workers – no Buick need be wasted!

Sign our petition at: www.PetitionOnline.com/legacy10

Help us spread the word and get as many signatures as we can! Share it on Facebook  & Retweet to your followers (@BevelUp). Let's create an Olympics legacy Vancouver can be proud of.
