The Street Nurses go to New York Pt 2

By Fiona Gold

Tuesday - Oct. 25 2010

Yikes my nose is getting powdered for TV.  How the hell do street nurses end up on TV? (And now she is combing my hair.) Frankly I am quite uncomfortable whereas Juanita looks highly composed on her side of the table. The studio is dark and the TV cameras roll in the wings manned by silent people. Our interviewer Ronnie Eldridge has lovely brown eyes and I focus on her eyes. A friendly face in the weirdness. It is a local unversity TV station. I breathe great relief as we step back into the street and gaze up at the top of the Empire State building.

A quick, fabulous lunch at the 2nd Ave Deli (a must if you go to New York) and then a taped radio interview for a future rendition of Lifestyles. We tumble out of Hunter College at 4pm only to return for a 5pm screening of Bevel Up for nursing students, faculty and anyone else who is interested in seeing the film. Much to our surprise Masha from the Open Society Institute arrives during the discussion and she shares how Bevel Up has impacted health professionals working in Russia and the Ukraine. We are surprised to hear that Bevel Up has been incorporated into the nursing curriculum in several schools in the Ukraine. Many people stay and chat after the film.

Wednesday - Oct. 26

We are on the train to Washington DC – gulp – more media stuff. This time a taping for a national PBS show, To the Contrary. We fly though Philadelphia, Baltimore and.....tbc.
