Bevel Up is screening at the US National Harm Reduction Festival which is held in Austin, Texas this year. James Tigchelaar and Nettie Wild will be answering a half hour Q&A after the film screens via Skype.

The Center for Health, Media & Policy at Hunter College has invited Bevel Up for a very special event. On Monday, October 25th, the CHMP brings together some of New York’s top experts in harm reduction with two of the nurses from the BC Street Nursing Program, Juanita Maginley and Fiona Gold.

Panel Discussion, Film Highlights, and a Reception
This panel discussion of harm reduction practice and policy includes a focus on the role of media on public health issues. The event includes comments from Hunter College President Jennifer Raab, the Joan Hansen Grabe Dean of the Hunter School of Nursing, Dr. Kristine Gebbie, and CMHP Co-Director, the Rudin Professor of Nursing Dr. Diana Mason. The panel is moderated by CMHP Co-Director Barbara Glickstein, and includes Dr. Daliah Heller, Assistant Commissioner, Bureau of Alcohol, Drug Use Prevention, Care and Treatment for New York City; Dr. Chinazo Cunningham, an MD practicing at a community health care center in the Bronx with a needle exchange program; Allen Kwabena Frimpong of the Harm Reduction Coalition in New York, an advocate with extensive background in international issues of harm reduction, especially among youth and Maxine King, outreach coordinator for WORTH (Women On The Rise Telling HerStory), a substance abuse counselor and social worker who has experienced the heath care system both as an addict and as a healer.

Screening, discussion and Q&A
A screening of “Bevel Up” with Q&A will be held at Hunter College Brookdale Campus. This event is for students of nursing, medicine, public policy, public health, and other related fields from within Hunter College and other NYC colleges/universities. Introductory remarks by Jessie Daniels, senior fellow at the Center.
THURSDAY, OCTOBER 28, 2010 - 5:00 to 6:30 PM
Juanita Maginley and Fiona Gold will be at the New York Academy of Medicine’s Ninth International Conference on Urban Health. The nurses’ only event, which is open to the public, is a prestigious conference that brings together international experts for a full screening and discussion of harm reduction in varying urban settings.
